Urgul is the primary language spoken by orcs, bugbears, goblins and hobgoblins. It has many dialects with variations that in some instances differ so greatly that separate tribes can barely understand each other. Urgul is characteristically harsh sounding and relies on context, repetition, and volume to add emphasis or meaning.
Written Urgul is adapted from dwarven runes and influenced by the Greek alphabet, but orcs and goblins are not a literate culture and rarely keep records or write down their thoughts. When they need to communicate in writing, they use crude symbols to convey basic information, such as "food stored here," danger close," or "go this way." Oddly enough, written Urgul remains fairly static and sees more frequent use as a bridge of communication between tribes that speak different dialects.
